Scenario 1 “The Chaotic
Classroom”

You arrive to school one Friday morning to learn that you have a substitute teacher. With
your regular teacher gone, your class has descended into chaos! Many students are talking
out of turn, even shouting. A handful of kids are in the back of the room copying each other’s
math homework. A few kids are throwing a football inside, and the ball has already knocked
over the fishbowl with your class pet, a goldfish named Bubbles. What would convince you
to act in a way that contributed to order, rather than chaos?

You know that if you participate in the “bad” behavior there will be a strict punishment,
such as missing recess or break.

You know that if you participate in the “bad” behavior you will have to call home and
your parents or another family member you care about will be terribly disappointed.
