Adding and Subtracting Polynomials

Objective: Add and subtract polynomials.

​Like Terms: terms that have the SAME variable(s)

​Vocabulary

​Combine Like Terms: take multiple like terms and make them one (SIMPLIFY)

​​Example: 4x² and 7x² are like terms

Example: 4x² and 7x are NOT like terms

​Simplify: 4x² - 3 - 7x² + 2
Answer: -3x² - 1

​ADDING POLYNOMIALS

​Example:

(-4x⁴ + 14 + 3x²) + (-3x⁴ -14x² - 8)

EXAMPLE

Find the perimeter of the figure.​
