​Mixtures & Solutions

These are both examples of physical changes. Some properties may change, but the particles themselves do not. These changes can be separated easily or reversed.

Each type of matter mixed remains the same.

Success Criteria

​Success criteria: I can identify what a mixture is, identify its parts and know what happens at the particle level.

​Success criteria: I can identify what a solution is, how it is different from a mixture and what happens at the particle level.

Something can melt, change shape, size or become combined and the particles won't change.

A melted ice cube is still water particles.

Physical Change

Trail mix is an example of a mixture.

-A mixture is a combination of matter. Although its combined the individual particles of each item don't change.

​Mixtures

Some mixtures might seem to change properties because the particles are evenly spread out, but the particles don't change.

The mixture might seem like a new substance but the particles can still be separated.
