Data Capture means collecting data for input. It is the first stage of the data processing cycle. There are two main ways of inputting data; manual and automatic.

Data Capture

Source Document

- a document on which data is first recorded before it is entered into the computer. For example using an optical scanner, the document being scanned is considered a source document.

Turnaround Document

- a document one which is produced as output at one stage of the data processing cycle, has more data added to it and is re-input for further processing.

​Means to check that data entered into the system is identical to the data on the original source document,
