   Fractions are parts of a whole or group

2. WHAT ARE THE PARTS OF A FRACTION?

   Numerator and Denominator. The numerator tells how man parts

   ( the top number) and the denominator tell how may pieces a whole has been divided into ( the bottom number).

3. WHAT WORDS COME TO MIND WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT FRACTIONS?

   Parts, portion , percentage, fragments, pieces

4. HOW ARE FRACTIONS RELATED TO DIVISION.

   a fractions can be used to represent a division problem. The numerator is the divisor and the denominator is the divident. You divide the numerator by the denominator.

1. Unit Fraction- any fraction with 1 as the numerator

2. Proper Fraction- A fraction where numerator is smaller than the denominator

3. Whole Fraction- A fraction that has the same numerator and denominator

4. Improper Fraction- A fraction where numerator is greater than or equal to the denominator

5. Equivalent Fractions- fractions that represent same quantity

6. Mixed Fraction- A fraction which has a combination of a whole number and a proper fraction

7. Like Fractions- Fractions with same denominators

8. Unlike Fractions- Fractions with different denominators
