Does this “global crisis” mean an immediate

threat to human beings? Unfortunately, the

answer is yes. Trees and forests are the Earth's

first line of defense against climate change

due to their functions of absorbing CO2 and

generating oxygen.

This is particularly true of the Amazon rainforest,

known as the lungs of the planet, for it produces

20% of the oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere.

Moreover, it is also home to millions of plant and

animal species, providing a perfect ecosystem for

various species to live together in harmony.

Because of deforestation, thousands of species

may lose their habitat, which will cause them to

go extinct.
