The 1-3-1 is a high energy, high pressure defence designed to create turnover and expose weak ball handling. It is crucial that everyone on the court does their job.

​Defence 1-3-1 Trap

Trapping:

• ​Active hands (don't need to swipe at the ball)

• Feet are touching (can't be split in the middle)

Split the court into 4 equal zones​. Numbers 1-4 each are responsible for 2 zones to double team in. It is ESSENTIAL that they are aggressive. 5's Job is to prevent anything in the middle. 1's most important job is to turn the PG early and make them pick a side, not let the ball come down the middle of the court.

Breakdown

​1 and 2 are trapping the ball.

3 is weakside and drops to the block preventing back door cuts and ready to trap if the ball enters their zone.

4 is mirroring the ball ready to trap preventing any baseline drive.

5 is plugging anything in the middle. ​
