Edward Lear was a British poet who lived about 200 years ago. As a young teenager, he was forced to earn a living. Lear turned to selling his artwork. Later in life, he sold the limericks he wrote and illustrated. Limericks actually began as part of nursery rhymes but became more popular when Lear published "The Book of Nonsense".
