• What are opposites?

  • Two integers that are the same distance from zero on the number line but are on opposite sides of zero.

• Two integers that are opposites are also called additive inverses.The sum of any number and its additive inverse or opposite is zero.

• What are some situations that would be considered additive inverses?

The sum of two negative integers is always negative.

Ex. -5 + -10 = -15​

A positve number paired with a negative number results in zero when added together.

​Example: -45 + 45 = 0

​To add integers with different signs, subtract their absolute values and take the sign of the larger number.

Example: -65 + 25 = -40

​How to add numbers on a number line:
