• This is because a child inherits half of the HLA Human Leukocyte Antigen markers from each parent 

​There is only a 25% chance of a sibling being a suitable donor 

• This is because there are four possible combinations for the maternal and paternal combinations 

• Next, the best option would be an HLA match, unrelated donor 

​A bone marrow donor register gives patients the option 

of finding a matched unrelated donor.

• There are currently 50 patients waiting for a bone marrow donor.

• It is a very difficult & tedious process.​

​Bone marrow is the soft, sponge-like tissue found inside a number of large bones in our body. It is the factory that produces blood cells and the cells that make up our immune system.

​There are two methods for donation 

• 1st Method: Peripheral Blood Stem Cells (PSBC) Collection. 

• 90% of donors go through this process.
