​Our next topic is taking us back to multiplication.of Polynomials

First, we are going to use a box method​ to organize our work.

In order to decide how many boxes are needed, we focus on the number of terms of each polynomial we are multiplying.​

Terms are separated by a plus (+) or minus (-) sign

Let's recall terms in Polynomials

​Apply this to the following polynomials being multiplied

2 * 2 = 4​

​(x + 4)(x - 8)

​Ex: (x + 4) (x - 8)

1 term * 2 terms = 2 boxes

​monomial * binomial

1 * 2 = 2

​-5(x + 6)​

​Ex: -5(x + 6)

2 terms * 3 terms = 6 boxes

​binomial * trinomial

2 * 3 = 6​

(x + 2) (x² -3x + 5)

​Ex: (x + 2) (x² -3x + 5)

1 term * 3 terms = 3 boxes

​monomial * trinomial

1 * 3 = 63

​

2 (x³ +7x - 6)

​Ex: 2 (x³ +7x - 6)
