Measuring Objects​

Make sure you pay attention to your ruler! Start at THE END of the ruler if OR where the ZERO starts.​.

​

You can measure length, width, or height​.

We can use inches to measure things such as a pencil, a book, or a smaller animal. ​

There are 12 inches on a ruler. 12 in. = 1 foot.​

Feet are commonly used to measure things bigger than 12 inches. like the length of a car, the height of a door, or the width of a desk.

​If you want to measure a bigger object, you could measure using yards. You might measure things such as a football field or a playground in yards.

3 feet (36 in.) = 1 yard.

You want to be precise or specific when you're measuring something!

Being Precise​

​

• Don't forget to put your unit of measurement with your number.

• Being precise while measuring also means measuring using inches, feet, yards, centimeter, etc. (Measuring with paperclips IS NOT precise!) ​

You would add measurements the same way you add normally! (Unless the units of measurement are different!)

If you want to add 5 in. + 7 in. you would get 12 in.​
