​Present Simple

​Used:

​

• for habits, permanent situations, general truths in the present

  • I drink coffee every morning.

  • The Earth is a planet.

• for future actions related to timetables and programmes​

  • The train leaves at 10:30.

​Time expressions used with Present Simple:

always/often/usually/every day/often/sometimes/rarely/seldom/hardly ever​

​Present progressive

​It is used for:

• temporary states and actions/events happening at or around the time of speaking.​

  • We are staying at our granny at the moment.

• ​planned future actions related to personal arrangements

  • She is going to the theatre tonight.​

​Time expressions:

• now/ at the moment/tonight/at present/nowadays/ this month​

​Action and Non - action verbs

​- Verbs that describe ACTIONS (cook, make...) can be used in the Present S. or Pr.

- Verbs that describe feelings/states (lvoe, need) are NON-ACTION verbs. They aren't usually used in Progressive forms

• agree, be, believe, belong, depend, forget, hate, hear, know, like, love, matter, mean, need, prefer, realize, recognize, remember, seem, suppose​

​ATTENTION!!!

Some verbs can be both Action and Non-Action verbs​!!!​
