There are so many roots and there are 2 root systems. The 2 root systems are called 1. Shoot system 2. Root system. it is not that complicated to memorize. Ill be explaining about all the systems and types of roots in this lesson.

In this type of root system, the plant has a main root which is called tap root . It is a long and thick root which grows straight downwards into the ground Eg: Carrot,Pea
Tap Root
A fibrous root has many branches and sub branches with fibre like root hair. The branches originate from the base of the stem and spread downwards in the ground.
Eg : Grass , wheat and sugercane

1 As root grow , they bind the plant firmly to the soil . thus , even when a strong wind blows , the plants do not get . uprooted
Roots absorb water and minerals from the soil and send them up into the stem and other parts of the plant.
Roots bind the soil and prevent soil erosion

Roots do not always grow under the ground. The banyan tree has rope like roots hanging on its branchesto the soil. these roots give extra support to the heavy branches . Roots like his that hangs on air are called aerial roots.
Aerial Root
Such roots have buds close to the surface of the ground. These buds can grow into a new independent plant . When the plant grows it has propagating roots to make the plant live a little more longer.
Propagating Root
Water Storing Roots store water, making it easier for plants to survive longer and in dry summer months. pumpkin and gourd are examples of such roots.
