Tasmania is the 26th largest island, following ​Sri Lanka!

The Cape-Grim Peninsular on Tasmania's North-Western coast has some of the cleanest air in the world according to the measuring station there (Bourget, 2019).

​According to the National Museum of Australia (2022), Aboriginal people have lived in Australia for at least 65,000 years. They are believed to have migrated into what is now Tasmania approximately 40,000 years ago.

​40% of Tasmania is national parks and reserves (Discover Tasmania, 2021).

Almost 25% is UNESCO World Heritage. ​

​Hobart was founded in 1804, second to Sydeny!

​"Bass Strait was not always a strait. It used to be a plain populated by Indigenous peoples who moved back and forth between what we now call Victoria and Tasmania.

The first humans arrived in Tasmania around 40,000 years ago. About 30,000 years ago an ice age began, which caused sea levels to drop about 120 metres and created a continuous land mass that stretched between Papua New Guinea and Tasmania.

When the ice melted – a process estimated to have taken 6000 years – Bass Strait formed and became an almost impassable barrier by about 12,000 years ago." (National Museum of Australia, 2022).

​"The first apple tree planted in Tasmania dates from 1788 when William Bligh anchored in Adventure Bay on Bruny Island and planted a selection of fruit, including three apple seedlings, the first apple trees planted in Australia... Apples were an important crop in Tasmania from early colonial settlement until the present. As an industry, it has also been extremely important to Tasmania, from its first commercial developments in the mid-nineteenth century through the main productive period from the early to mid-1900s."
