​Direct Objects

​Direct Objects are the who/what after the verb.

​ -They always come after an action verb

-They are always nouns​

​EXAMPLE: Tonya watched Netflix for ten hours.

-Tonya watched who/what?

-Netflix​

Indirect Objects

Indirect objects are the receiver of the direct object

-They always come before the direct object

-They are always a noun/pronoun​

-Commonly come after these verbs: brought, bough, made, baked, cooked, took, gave, left, offered, borrowed, loaned, taught, showed, wrote, and promised ​

​EXAMPLE: The generous man gave his employees thousand dollar raises.

-employees (they received the raises)

​PREDICATE NOUNS

​Just like direct objects but with linking verbs

-They always come after linking verbs (is, are, was, were, am, has, have, be, been, etc.)

-They are always nouns/pronouns

​EXAMPLE: Miles has been my friend since first grade.

-friend (who/what has been ...)​
