American Indians today do not live in teepees and dress in headdresses everyday. This is an incorrect stereotype (or image) that we need to avoid in order to be respectful of the Native American people. They are people just like you and me: They wear modern clothing, do all kinds of jobs, and shop at modern stores!

​What is a reservation?

The American Indians in Ohio lived here for thousands of years before Europeans arrived. The relationship between American Indians and Europeans started with a good relationship because of trading goods, but as more Europeans arrived, their relationship became tense.

How long were they herE before us?

In 1830, the U.S. government passed a law called the "Indian Removal Act." This forced Native Americans to give up their land. Many traveled to a reservation on a long trail that is commonly called the Trail of Tears. It is called this because it was a dangerous trail, where many Indigenous people died.
