If you said that day and night is caused by the earth's rotation, you are correct.

If they earth rotated faster on its axis that would effect how long we are facing the sun. If we were to spin faster our days and nights would be a lot shorter.

​This is why the sun appears to rise in the eastern sky first. As the earth rotates the sun will shine on people in South Carolina before the sun shines on California.

​Hemispheres

The equator is an imaginary line that divides the world into two halves.

Those halves are called the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere. ​

​

We live in the northern hemisphere which is the top half.​

Seasons

When the tilt of the earth has the northern hemisphere pointing to the sun we have summer.

If the southern hemisphere is tilted more to the sun then we would have winter. ​
