• ​completed the training and quiz (score>80%) for the designated camera class.

​It is important you be familiar with multiple models.

​To get the best out of camera, you need to know what you are working with.

​SmartPhone Cameras

• Pros:

  • ​Easy access, most of us carry one

  • ​Rear facing camera usually take higher quality photos

• ​Cons:

  • ​Small sensors mean low-light (indoor) photos are "noisy"

  • ​Prone to camera shake (blur from movement)

​Compact Cameras (Point & Shoot)

• ​Pros:

  • Almost as simple as "point and shoot"

  • ​More advanced options can be selected

  • ​Pocket-size

• ​Cons:

  • ​Small sensor means it struggles in low-light (indoors)

  • ​Prone to camera shake (blurry photos)

​Bridge Cameras

• Pros:​

  • Between a compact and DSLR

  • Many automated or manual settings

  • ​Versatile zoom lens

  • ​Reasonable size sensor means more lighting conditions (better indoor photos!)

• ​Cons:

  • ​Lower image quality than DSLR

​Digital Single Lens Reflective Camera (DSLR)

• ​Pros:

  • ​Automatic Mode or Full Control (Manual)

  • ​Multiple Lens Options

  • ​Potential for professional grade results in/outdoors

• ​Cons:

  • ​Bulky & heavy

  • ​Takes a long time to learn

​Usually button, but the Nikon Coolpix cameras will need to have the menu opened and select no flash.

​ISO Rating

​Describes the ability to gather light.

​High ISO: gathers a lot of light quickly

• good for subjects moving at high speed

• low light situations

Low ISO takes a long time to gather light

• ​better suited for outdoor photos

• ​requires a tripod or other stabilization indoors

​How to zoom a compact or bridge camera:

​Usually a twist by the shutter button or a T/W toggle switch.

​Enemies of your camera:

• ​Water

• ​Dust/sand

• ​Drops

  • ​Invisible harm to sensor!

• ​People forcing zoom lens in/out
