A nineteen-year-old boy named Sullivan (Sully) and his fourteen-year-old sister named Melissa (Scoot) are sailing on a cutter-rigged sailboat in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Southern California. A giant wave suddently appears behind them. The "rogue" wave turns their boat upside down. The boy is outside: he is on the bottom of the boat; his sister is trapped inside the cabin, and water is coming in fast. What follows is their dramatic story of survival.
