The planetary model of the atom was introduced in 1913 by

Niels Bohr, a Danish physicist

​According to the Bohr model, often referred to as a planetary model, the electrons encircle the nucleus of the atom in specific allowable paths called orbits. When the electron is in one of these orbits, its energy is fixed. ... The orbits that are further from the nucleus are all of successively greater energy

​Limitations to the Planetary model

​The main problem with Bohr's model is that it works very well for atoms with only one electron, like hydrogen (H) or the helium ion (He+), but not at all for multi-electron atoms

​Advantages of the Planetary Model

​ Bohr's atomic model explained the stability of an atom. According to Bohr, an electron revolving in a particular orbit cannot lose energy. Therefore, emission of radiation is not possible as long as the electron remains in one of its energy levels and hence there is no cause of insatbility in his model.
