• Place describes the human and physical characteristics of a location.

• Place refers to a description rather than a location.

• When describing a place, we are usually describing what makes one place different from another.

  Answers the question “What is it like there?”

Things to possibly include when describing place: Climate, animals, plants, culture, religion, homes, food, clothing, governments, schools, and economy.

  • Climate region

  • Culture region

    Physical region

  • Political region

​Rainforests are examples of a climate region. Latin America is an example of a cultural region.

  • Cultural diffusion: the spread of ideas and goods from one region to another
