Every staff starts with a clef sign that assigns a letter name to a specific line or space.

This is usually called a treble clef.
It is also sometimes called a G clef.
It is most often used by higher-pitched instruments.

Treble clef names the second line G.

Thinking of this image might help you remember that the part curling around the 2nd line names it G.

This is usually called bass clef.
Sometimes it is called the F clef.
It is used for lower pitches.
