Although he has changed many of the words, this student has not put any of his own thoughts into the work. It would have been okay if he used the idea, but wrote it in his own words.

Copying a whole entire paragraph is certainly plagiarism.

Also, it is only 1 sentence. Occasionally people will write a sentence that is very similar to someone elses; this is fine.

Having the same idea as someone is also okay. Both students still would have written this essay in their own words and would never been able to see the other person's work.

AI is not a good tool to use in VCE English, because it does not have enough knowledge about our writing structures or how we analyse texts. I do not recommend using it, but if you ARE going to use it, it should only be used to help you brainstorm ideas or to explain things to you.
