Safety First!

• Science is a hands-on class with lab activities.

• You will be handling different materials and equipment during science labs.

• Safety in the science classroom is the #1 priority!

• To ensure a safe science classroom, there are rules to follow that you will agree to in your Lab Safety Contract.

• These rules must be followed at ALL times.

• A signed lab safety contract is required to participate in labs.

Wear Safety Gear

• Wear any protective gear appropriate for the lab as instructed.

• Safety Glasses, Gloves, Lab Coat, Apron

• DO NOT remove until you are DONE.

• Only wear closed toe shoes in the lab.

Follow All Directions

• Listen and follow directions given by the teacher.

• Read through the lab completely and be prepared BEFORE you begin.

• Do not do anything not included in the lab.

Be Careful - No Horseplay

• Things to be VERY CAREFUL with: *glassware *hot items *flammable materials *open flames

• No horseplay (running, throwing, pranking, pushing, etc.)

• **Report horseplay immediately**

Work Neatly

• Keep your workspace and yourself neat and tidy.

• Secure all belongings.

• Secure loose hair and clothing.

Emergency Procedures

• Know the location of safety equipment.

• Know how and who to call for help.

• Know emergency procedures for your lab.

Don't Eat or Drink

• There is NO eating or drinking in the lab!

• NO GUM!

• NEVER taste a chemical.

• NEVER sniff directly.

Report Any Accidents

• Things to report immediately:

• -Spills

• -If something is broken or breaks

• -Injuries- even if they seem minor

Clean Up

• After completing the lab, carefully clean your workspace and equipment as directed.

• Wash your hands!
