Lab Safety

Science is a hands-on class with lab activities.

You will be handling different materials and equipment during science labs.

Safety in the science classroom is the #1 priority!

To ensure a safe science classroom, there are rules to follow that you will agree to in your Lab Safety Contract.

These rules must be followed at ALL times.

A signed lab safety contract is required to participate in labs.

Wear any protective gear appropriate for the lab as instructed.

Safety Glasses, Gloves, Lab Coat, Apron

DO NOT remove until you are DONE.

Only wear closed toe shoes in the lab.

Listen and follow directions given by the teacher.

Read through the lab completely and be prepared BEFORE you begin.

Do not do anything not included in the lab.

Things to be VERY CAREFUL with: *glassware *hot items *flammable materials *open flames

No horseplay (running, throwing, pranking, pushing, etc.)

**Report horseplay immediately**

Keep your workspace and yourself neat and tidy.

Secure all belongings.

Secure loose hair and clothing.

Know the location of safety equipment.

Know how and who to call for help.

Know emergency procedures for your lab.

There is NO eating or drinking in the lab!

NO GUM!

NEVER taste a chemical.

NEVER sniff directly.

Things to report immediately:

-Spills

-If something is broken or breaks

-Injuries- even if they seem minor

After completing the lab, carefully clean your workspace and equipment as directed.

Wash your hands!
