Latitudes
They are imagnary lines drawn on earth. The encircle the Earth horizontly. These lines are parallel at equal distance. There are 181 lines in total.The longest latitude is the Equator . It divides the Earth into two equal halves or hemisphers. Equator is known as the northern hemisphere and the one below it is called southern hemisphere.

Lonitudes
These lines run from north to south pole and these lines are not parllel.They are important indicators of time so they are also known as meridians.The meridian which passes through Royal observaty at Greenwich near south London is called the Prime Meridian .The prime meridian is 0degree.It divides the Earth into two hemispheres:The Eastern hemisphere and the Western hemisphere.In each hemisphere there are 180 lines of latitudes,numbered from 0degree to 180degree. Combined these are 360 lines in total. Another inportant meridian is Internationl date line at 180 degree longitude.
