Interpreting 

• Is to read something that is not obvious, making relations between what you know and what you see and trying to create a new message behind the artwork.

Judging

The method of art criticism and looking at the aesthetic views suggested by Mittler & Ragans (2005):​

1. The subject view (is the subject easy to identify?)

2. The composition view (are the elements combined?)

3. Do they have coherence and organization?)

4. Ask yourself these questions so you can make a judgment.

Legend of Art

Ancient traditions trace the origin of image-making to drawing a line around a reflected image or shadow.

A Greek legend attributes the origin of portraiture to a young woman of Corinth who traced the shadow of her lover’s face cast on the wall by lamplight.

His father, a potter, filled in the outline with clay, which he then fired (Schneider, 2008).

Religion
