1. In the Late 1960's the baby boomers are 25 or younger.

   They have grown up hearing how great their parents were:​

   1. Their parents survived the great depression

   2. Their parents won World war 2

   3. Their parents gave them the economic boom of the 50s

   4. Their parents have stood strong during the cold war

   But now the Baby Boomers feel like their parents have screwed everything up (Vietnam, Race relations) and the resent the older generation for telling them how to think and act!

​What do you feel like your parents generation has done or screwed up?

1. Young people start to question how society work

   1. War & Violence are pointless

   2. The gov. & wealth control everything (the machine/the man/the establishment)

   3. Don't trust the older generation ("dont trust anyone over 30")

   4. America was not the perfect nation they were taught about growing up. America seemed to by greedy and violent

   5. Question everything you're told

   The "Counter-Culture Movement" Pushes back against society's expectation for lifestyle, looks, behavior, and dress​

Music becomes an outlet for their emotion and frustration.

Music is no longer about holding hands and going dancing. It now carries a deep social message.

Nothing symbolizes this more than the Haight in San Francisco and the 1969 Concert known as

​

WOODSTOCK!​

Hippies & "Doves"

1. Viewed themselves as positive sources of change

2. Unfortunately turned against the U.S. Soldier

3. Believed Vietnam was either unwinnable or not worth it​

Soldiers and "Hawks"

1. Viewed themselves as patriots

2. Despised the Counterculture movement

3. Believed more force would bring victory​
