Use a capital letter with a quote that is a complete sentence, EVEN WHEN it is AT THE END.

You need 1 comma, 2 quotation marks, and 1 period.

Example:

She looked at me and said, “I am sorry.”

If the sentence quoted is split, use a lowercase letter for the second part of the question.

You need 4 quotation marks, 2 commas, and 1 period.

Example:

“If you leave early," he said, “you will miss the show.”

You can start a sentence with quotation marks.

Example:

"Hurry up," said my friend to me.
