SOAPSTone - The Giver Introduction

This is the voice that tells the story! Who is telling the story and what is the narrator's point of view?

For example, the narrator in The Giver only knows the thoughts and feelings of the protagonist, Jonas. Because of this, the book is told from a third-person limited point of view.

This is the time and place of the text and the context that prompted the writing.

For example, The Giver is set in a utopian society where everything is "perfect." Lois Lowry, the author, was inspired to write a book about a place where painful memories and experiences could be taken away after her own experience with her parent's Alzheimers. She realized how important memories are, including the painful ones.

The audience is the group of readers to whom the text is directed.

This is the reason for the text. What is the author trying to tell you? What does he/she want you to think about? What is the theme?
