• Formal titles are given to Napoleon.

• After three hens confess to an attempt to assassinate Napoleon, Napoleon is guarded by dogs at night and a pig named Pinkeye begins testing his food for poison.

• Napoleon talks about selling lumber to either Pilkington or Frederick.

• He wavers back and forth but eventually sells it to Frederick.

• This is done in order to raise the price of the wood; Napoleon "cleverly" refuses a check from Frederick, and is paid with counterfeit bills.

Pilkington vs. Frederick

• Frederick attacks Animal Farm with guns, driving the animals into hiding.

• They blow up the windmill.

• This enrages the animals, who charge again and finally drive off the men.

Battle of the Windmill

• A cow, three sheep, and two geese are killed.

• Three men are killed by Boxer's hooves and one is gored by a cow's horn.

• Boxer feels old as he considers rebuilding the windmill.

• The next day, Squealer announces that Napoleon is dying. (He's actually just hungover.)

• Afterwards, the Fifth Commandment is changed to say, "No animal shall drink alcohol to excess."
