Haitian Battles

On February 4, 1801, the seventh anniversary of the abolition of slavery by the National Assembly, Toussaint Louverture convoked a Constitutional Assembly to write a constitution for Saint-Domingue, though it was still a colony of France.

The Battle of Crête-à-Pierrot was a major battle of the Haitian Revolution that took place from 4 March until 24 March 1802. The battle took place at the Crête-à-Pierrot fort, east of Saint-Marc on the valley of the Artibonite River.

The Battle of Ravine-à-Couleuvres, also known as the Battle of Snake Gully, was a major battle of the Haitian Revolution on 23 February 1802. A French division under General Donatien de Rochambeau was advancing down a ravine, towards Lacroix, Artibonite, where they attacked the army of Toussaint Louverture.

The Siege of Santo Domingo of 1805 was a major battle of the Franco-Haitian War and was fought on March, 1805 at Santo Domingo, Saint-Domingue. A force of some 2,000 French Army troops led by Gen. Jean-Louis Ferrand resisted a siege of three weeks by a force of 21,000 Haitian Army troops led by Emperor Jacques I.

The Battle of Vertières was the last major battle of the Haitian Revolution, and the final part of the Haitian Revolution under Jean Jacques Dessalines. It was fought on 18 November 1803 between Haitian indigenous army, and Napoleon's French expeditionary forces, who were committed to regaining control of the island.
