Climate of India

In this season, the Himalayas receive a very pleasant weather.

The interior of the Deccan plateau also has a pleasant climate due to the influence of latitude.

The highest temperatures are found in the Northern plains and the Thar desert.

When the first monsoon rains arrive suddenly, in a dramatic form – accompanied by thunder, lightning, and torrential rain, it is known as the ‘burst’ or the ‘breaking’ of the monsoons.

The rainfall decreases as the winds blow westward into the Ganga Plain as they lose their moisture as they progress.

The Deccan Plateau, which lies on the leeward side of the Western Ghats also receives relatively less rainfall.

Retreating Monsoon

The temperature in the Northern Plain begins to decrease as the Sun’s rays no longer fall directly at the Equator.

This season is marked by cyclones in the Bay of Bengal.

The temperature and humidity are very high. This condition is known as the ‘October Heat’.
