Verb Tense: Info Review

PAST SIMPLE: Describes something that happened in the past. Example: Kyle grabbed the falling vase.

PRESENT SIMPLE: Describes something that is happening now. Example: Ms. Wiedmar teaches us Language Arts.

FUTURE SIMPLE: Describes something that will happen in the future. Uses the helping verb "will" Example: I will go to the grocery after school.

Have, has, had to make the perfect tense!

Describes an action that is complete

Use the helping verbs to help determine if it is past, present, or future

PAST PERFECT: Describes an action that has already occured in the past before something else occured. Example: Johnny had already seen the movie before we went together.

PRESENT PERFECT: Describes an action that has already occured at some unspecified time. Example: Johnny has already seen that movie.

FUTURE PERFECT: Describes an action that will have occured by the time something happens in the future. Example: Johnny will have seen the movie by the time we go next month.

Uses helping verbs with the -ing form of the verb

PAST PROGRESSIVE: Describes an ongoing action that occured in the past. Example: I was playing baseball last summer.

PRESENT PROGRESSIVE: Describes an ongoing action occurring now. I am playing baseball.

FUTURE PROGRESSIVE: Describes an ongoing action that will occur in the future. I will be playing baseball next summer.
