2
Aircraft Movement and Navigation
Advanced electronic Fly-by-wire flight controllers were developed in the 1950’s and 1960’s, using sensors and a computer to “close the loop” of the flight control system, making aircraft more maneuverable and limit the possibility of flying outside of its operational capabilities.
3
Multiple Select
Which four things does the flight control system monitor?
Altitude
GPS
Location
Altitude
Speed
4
Sensors that provide critical feedback to the controller include the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), Air Data System also called the Barometer, Magnetometer, and Global Positioning System (GPS). Some advanced UAS flight control systems use a combination of sensors to provide system redundancy and increase UAS safety margins.
5
Multiple Choice
Inertial Measurement Unit
Uses satellites to provide accurate navigational data
Uses static and dynamic air pressure to help determine aircraft's airspeed and altitude
Uses mini gyroscopes and linear accelerometers to obtain vehicle velocity and position
A tiny electrical sensor that acts as a compass for situational awareness and navigation
6
Multiple Choice
Barometer
Uses satellites to provide accurate navigational data
Uses static and dynamic air pressure to help determine aircraft's airspeed and altitude
Uses mini gyroscopes and linear accelerometers to obtain vehicle velocity and position
A tiny electrical sensor that acts as a compass for situational awareness and navigation
7
Multiple Choice
Magnetometer
Uses satellites to provide accurate navigational data
Uses static and dynamic air pressure to help determine aircraft's airspeed and altitude
Uses mini gyroscopes and linear accelerometers to obtain vehicle velocity and position
A tiny electrical sensor that acts as a compass for situational awareness and navigation
