Flight plans are created prior to the flight using a Ground Control Station (GCS) which consists of a portable computer with flight planning software, a set of electronic joystick devices and switches for pilot inputs, a wireless uplink transmitter, and a wireless downlink receiver.

Flight planning software allows remote pilots to identify navigational waypoints to create a flight plan and upload it to the aircraft for a semi-autonomous flight.
