Biomes: Concentration on Intro of Terrestrial Biome

A biome is a large area of land that is classified based on the climate, plants, and animals that make their homes there. Biomes contain many ecosystems within the same area.

When we talk about climate in this lesson, we are going to look at the average temperature and precipitation the region receives. Climate is often influenced by latitude, or how far north or south a location is from the equator.

Land-based biomes are called terrestrial biomes. Water-based biomes are called aquatic biomes. Temperatures, precipitation amounts, and prevalent organisms characterize the biomes of the world.

7th-grade Standard-based terrestrial biomes are as follows: tropical rainforest, savanna (tropical savanna grassland), temperate forest, desert, grassland (temperate grassland), taiga, and tundra).
