Empathy vs. sympathy.
Put simply, empathy is recognizing and sharing in another person's feelings.
Sympathy means recognizing someone's emotions, but empathy takes it a step further—with empathy, you feel the same emotion as the other person because you can imagine yourself in their place.
The difference may seem small, but it’s not. In order to effect true change in the world, we need to first recognize the feelings of others, fully understand the weight of a person’s situation—best done by imagining ourselves in the same scenario—and then feel compelled to act.”

Empathy Scenario #1
You’re in the car and you see a homeless person standing outside in the winter time asking for money. It is very cold. Someone you are in the car with says to you, “Maybe he should just get a job. What a loser.”

Empathy scenario #2
In gym class, a girl that rarely ever participates in gym decides to participate in soccer. She kicks the ball and misses the goal. A kid on her team says to her, “You’re horrible. Why are you even playing?” A few minutes later she tells the teacher that she is sick and goes to the nurse’s office.

You find out that a friend of yours found out that their father lost their job. Your friend is really quiet and doesn’t want to talk about it. She and her family have to move in with relatives next weekend.
