The reason for purchase was that slaves were escaping into Spanish Florida and Plantation owners were wanting to retrieve them.

Also the U.S. wanted to stop Native American Attacks on Georgia.

Spain gave up claims to Texas and received $5 Million from the U.S.

Before Texas was a part of the U.S. it was part of Mexico.

Texas gained independence from Mexico to becomes its own country.

Texas was annexed by the U.S. in 1845.

Spain give up its claim to Oregon to the U.S.

Russia dropped out because it was to far to protect its claim to Oregon.

The U.S. finally negotiated a Treaty with Britain for Oregon at the 49th parallel line.

Once included present day Oregon, Washington, Idaho plus parts of Montana and Wyoming

Mexico ceded its provinces of California and New Mexico to the United States; in return the U.S. gave Mexico $15 million
