FCE Speaking 1-2

The exam begins the moment you enter the room so make sure to answer properly to all questions.

Always give full-sentence answers; never give yes/no or single-word/short-phrase answers.

If you don't hear/understand what sb said, just ask them to say it again.

Always be polite and say please and thank you

Speaking exams are not honesty tests; you can say sth you don't believe if it's easier for you to say or if it shows off your English. It's ok nobody will know-or care- as long as it makes sense and is spoken in fluent and correct English.

You make sure you understand the question

You can recognise the tense you must use eg How many times have you travelled last year?

Be careful about the tenses you use and about adverbs of frequency when asked about hobbies etc

What hobbies do you enjoy doing at weekends? (Why?)

How much time do you spend studying at weekends? (Do you think that's enough?)

What did you do last weekend?

What are you going to do this weekend?

Do you prefer Saturdays or Sundays?

1) You get 2 photos and you have 1 minute to a) compare the photos b) answer questions about them.

2) You get 30 seconds to answer short questions about your partner's photos.

Make clear which photo you are talking about (In the first/second photo, in the photo with the... )

Refer to specific parts of the photo (the top/middle/ bottom/ bottom-left etc)

Let the examiner and your partner speak; this isn't a dialogue, you shouldn't interrupt.

There seems to be a dog/ I think I can see a dog

In the first photo I can see a family while in the second one a group of men.

The first picture was taken by the beach. Similarly was the second one.

It looks to me like they are having fun.

The possibly/certainly/probably/definitely chose this location because it's quiet and peaceful.
