Exponents

Factor: a number multiplied by another number to get a product

repeated multiplication: multiplying the same factor over and over

base: a number that is multiplied

exponent: tells how many times our base is multiplied/ used as a factor

power: a number that is formed by repeated multiplication of the same factor

Multiply the first two factors: 7 x 7=49

Multiply the result by the next factor: 49 x 7= 343

7 x 7 x 7= 343

4⁵ = 4x4x4x4x4= 1,024

 $\frac{1}{4}^3$  =  $\frac{1}{4}x\ \frac{1}{4}x\ \frac{1}{4}$  =  $\frac{1}{64}$  

 $-7^2$  = -7 x -7 = 49

* any number to the first power is itself ( $10^1$  = 10 )

* any number to the power of 0 is always 1 (  $10^0$  = 1)
