It is the movement of sugars that are made in the leaves, to other parts of the plant where it is needed.

The Phloem
The Phloem is part of the Vascular bundle.
It is found next to the Xylem in the veins of the leaf.
It reaches from the leaf, through the stem, all the way to the roots.
This allows transport of water, sugars, mineral ions, amino acids and hormones to all parts of the plant.

Transports sugars (amino acids and hormones) from the leaves throughout the rest of the plant
The sugar in plants is Sucrose
This can happen in both directions, towards the top of the plant and down to the roots.
Active transport is used to assist this process

It is transported through the plant in the Phloem, both up and down the plant.
It is stored in 'sinks'. Fruits and flowers, or in the roots.
It is also used by the plant to grow

Most of the sugar we eat everyday is actually frown here in the UK from Sugarbeet.
It is also grown in some countries in the form of Sugar Cane, but has lead to deforestation and habitat destruction as farmers clear land to plant.
Sugar cane film is being used as a biodegradable alternative to cellophane

Aphids are small insects which can infest plants and cause great damage if their numbers get out of control.
They generally reproduce asexually (although some species do mate)
An adults can produce as many offspring as 80 per week.

Needle like mouth parts puncture the leaf and the Phloem, enabling the aphid to drink the sap.
If an infestation occurs, the plant may very likely die, due the sap being removed and not being available for the plant.
The holes left continue to leak until the liquid evaporates from the sap and the sugar crystals block the hole.
