Area and Perimeter

The distance around a shape

To find the perimeter of a polygon, add the length of each of its sides

The amount of surface inside a shape

To find area you can tile the shape and count the square units

You can also multiply the length of the shape by the width of the shape

Rectilinear shapes are formed with right angles (like rectangles and squares.) Some rectilinear shapes have more than 4 sides.

To find the area, decompose the shape into smaller rectangles. Find the area of each rectangle. Add the areas together.
