Classification of Living Things: Domains & Kingdoms

There are 8 levels of classification.

Domain is the largest and Species is the most specific.

There are 3 Domains: Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukarya.

Domains have the largest differences among organisms.

Prokaryotes are single-celled organisms that do not have a nucleus in their cells.

Eukaryotes are made up of cells that have nuclei in their cells and a membrane to contain their organelles.

Eukaryotes cells are usually bigger than prokaryotes.

This domain is also the kingdom for these living things.

Bacteria are made up of prokaryotic cells (single-cell/no nucleus).

Can live in almost any environment.

This domain is also the kingdom for these living things.

Archaea are made up of prokaryotic cells (single-cell/no nucleus).

They have different genetics and cell walls than bacteria.

Live in the most extreme environments.

This domain splits into 4 different kingdoms: Animalia, Plantae, Fungi, and Protista

They are made up of eukaryotic (complex, the nucleus in the cell).

Can be single-celled or multicellular.
