Jika ada dua buah polinomial maka pengurangan dari kedua polinomial tersebut hanya dilakukan terhadap suku-suku sejenis. suku sejenis adalah suku-suku dengan variabel berpangkat sama. pengurangan dilakukan terhadap koefisien-koefisien setiap suku dari kedua polinomial tersebut.

$=\left(2x^3-4x+5\right)-\left(-5x^3+2x^2-4x-10\right)$
$=2x^3-4x+5+5x^3-2x^2+4x+10$
$=2x^3+5x^3-2x^2-4x+4x+5+10$
$=7x^3-2x^2+15$
