Cystic fibrosis is a recessive condition.

Both parents pass on a recessive allele for the genetic disorder to the child.

Child is homozygous, has two copies of the recessive allele.

Cut out the gene for human growth hormone from DNA using a restriction enzyme.

Cut open the bacterial plasmid, using the same enzyme.

Insert the human gene for growth hormone into the bacterial plasmid, using an enzyme (ligase).

Place plamid into bacterial cell, divides by mitosis, clones all containing human gene for growth hormone.

Some peacocks have colourful feathers, there was variation in the peacock species.

Peacocks with colourful feathers attract more mates (advantageous characteristic).

Peacocks with colourful feathers survive and reproduce more.

Pass on allele for colourful feathers to their offspring.
