Past Continuous Tense

1. used to talk about something that is doing or going on while talking

They are swimming in the pool. (They are swimming in the pool.)

He is having breakfast. (He is having breakfast.)

** We can add the word just in front of V ing to emphasize that it is ...

He is just having breakfast.

2. used to say events that will happen in the near future or must be so, often used with verbs moving

My dad is going to Tokyo on Friday. (My dad is going to Tokyo on Friday)

I'm flying to Milan in September. (I'm flying to Milan in September)

Remember: Some verbs cannot be ingested in the Present Continuous.They are called Stative Verbs, such as hear, see, feel, understand, love, etc.

Black is a dull past.

Orange is a bright present

Pink is a bright future

The white arrow is an event (as of now)

A dash represents a short time (for the Continuous Tense).

The white dotted line is the length of time an event has taken place.

The yellow dash is the period during which the event continues.
