Notebook: Learning & Habit Objectives
Learning: I will graph quadratics from standard from
Habit: I will follow every step of this procedure
4
Success Criteria
I know the parts of the graph of a quadratic
I can find and graph the x and y intercepts
I can find and graph the axis of symmetry
I can find and graph the vertex
I can sketch the graph of a quadratic using these key points
5
Open Ended
This is the graph of the equation y=x2. What do you notice? Write three observations.
6
In Your Notebook
The graph of a quadratic equation is called a parabola. It is a curve that changes directions once and has beautiful line symmetry.
7
Notebook: Graphing from Standard Form
Substitute 0 for x and solve for y. This is the y intercept
Evaluate
2a−bGraph the line of symmetry x=-b/2a
Substitute your value for -b/2a for the x's in the equation and evaluate. This will give the y coordinate for the vertex. Graph the vertex.
Factor the quadratic, set to 0, and solve. Your solutions are the x intercepts aka the "zeros." Graph them.
Now connect your key points to sketch your parabola
