Pollination

These are the brightly coloured parts of the plant. Their function is to attract birds and insects for pollination.

These are the leaf like structures near the base of the flower. Their function is to protect the flower at bud stage. They also provide food for the flower.

This the male reproductive part of the plant. It is made up of filament and anther. The anther contains the male reproductive cells the pollen grains.

This is the female reproductive part of the plant. It is made up of Sigma, Style and Ovary. Ovary contains the female reproductive cells the Ovules.

These flowers possess all the four parts of the flower. For example Hibiscus, Mango etc.

These are the flowers which do not possess any one or more of the four whorls. For example Watermelon, maize, cucumber etc.

Flowering plants reproduce using seeds. In order for seeds to be created a process called Pollination must occur. Pollination is the process by which the pollens of a flower fall on the stigma of a flower. There are 2 types of pollination : Self and Cross pollination.

In this type of pollination pollens of a flower fall on the stigma of the same flower. this happens in caomplets flowers.

Example - Wheat etc

In this type of pollination the pollens of a flower fall on the stigma of a different flower. This happens with tha help of Wind, water, birds and insects who are also called as agents of pollination.
