Treaty is signed

On February 2, 1848, diplomats from the two countries signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, in the town of Guadalupe Hidalgo, officially ending the war.

Terms of the Treaty

• Mexico officially recognized Texas as part of the U.S.

• It gave up all claim to land between the Nueces and the Rio Grande

• Mexico also agreed to cede some 529,000 sq. miles of additional territory for $15 Million (Mexican Cession)
